120 = 6 reps of 20

September 17, 2012 by Ron Andruff   Comments (0)

The Challenge continues with each day.  As the number of daily push ups goes up, calculating in which increments you'll do them is part of the process.  I have four sets of 20 behind me and two to go, as I write this.  Doing constant push ups for weeks now has given me a new appreciation for them as a 'one stop shop' for the whole body... Ombretta and I are both feeling stronger bi- and triceps, abs, shoulders, back, etc.  My posture has improved; my shoulders drawn back by... Read full post

Today is 90 pushups (for those who are following along)!

I blogged about our Koguma Dojo meeting the push up challenge of our California brothers a week or so ago, so for those of you following along at home today's effort is 90...  The funny thing about this challenge is not so much struggling through the last few push ups of each series that one does to amass the total for the day, rather the struggle is to make the necessary time to get them all in.  I can tell you from experience, trying to bang out 30 or 40 push ups before climbing... NY Giants worth a cool $1.5 billion...

So the Giants are the 5th most valuable franchise in the NFL as noted by Forbes magazine at $1.468 billion, but that is more than $600 million less than the #1 Dallas Cowboys, which have a value of $2.1 billion.  That's some amazing equity in those sport franchises!
The only sport franchise worth more is....  wait for it...
Manchester United with a value of $2.24 billion.
That's some amazing equity those owners are holding and with the 10-year collective bargaining agreement... Read full post

Labor Day Weekend 2012 - motorcycling, swimming, and push-ups!

September 4, 2012 by Ron Andruff   Comments (2)

This had to be one of the laziest long weekends I've spent in a long time!  Or so it felt... it was wonderful to sleep in every day for four days straight!  (Well one of us slept.  Ombra was up early to run, swim, and do her sit up routine every day.  God bless her!)
Ombretta and I had little traffic and a smooth couple of hours ride out to Quogue (to Michael and Deanne's weekend home) and, fortunately, enjoyed the same traffic conditions coming home.  During the... Read full post

'Oympic Family' sections

I was reflecting back on the London Olympics this past weekend and recalled one of the most amazing aspects - that I personlly experienced when I attended the Beijing and Vancouver Games - is being a member of the so-called 'Olympic Family'.  I'm not speaking about the T3 car service that you may have heard about, which enables you to go the queue of Official Cars, climb in and have the driver whisk you through special traffic-free lanes to the next sport venue on your list of events you... Losing to win - Olympic Badminton

August 7, 2012 by Ron Andruff   Comments (2)

sports, clubs

Now well into the London Olympics, the world is learning a lot more about Olympic sports - and their specific rules - than it knew before the Games began late last month.  Take badminton for example.  While the rules say you have to win every match, in point of fact, Olympic athletes and coaches are looking for any available advantage, including throwing a match to save energy or to face an easier opponent in the next round.  "It's perfectly legal, but morally indefensible", said... The Norseman

August 3, 2012 by Ron Andruff   Comments (0)

This Iron Man triathlon is insane.  Here it is right from the site:

About Norseman Xtreme Triathlon

Norseman is the world’s toughest long-distance distance triathlon. It is also the most northern, taking place at the same latitude as Anchorage in Alaska. The race is a travel through some of the most beautiful parts of Norway. It is not a normal circuit-race as it starts in a fjord and finishes at mountain Gaustatoppen at 1,850 meters above sea level. Total ascent is 5,000... Read full post

Empty seats at the Olympic Games?!

July 30, 2012 by Ron Andruff   Comments (0)

The issue of host country residents not getting access to Olympic Games tickets and then seeing lots of empty seats in the stadium during the events is really a vexing issue!  Last night there were rows and rows of seats occupied by British Armed Forces - and I commented on that to my wife - to watch the gymnastics program.  Today I read in the Reuter's feed that those troops were actually security personnel (remember the scandal about the contractor who was unable to meet the...
