Now Kiting is in the Olympic Games; now its not...

I can't believe that the International Sailing Federation would flip flop on such an important issue as replacing one Olympic sailing sport with another!  It was such exciting news six months ago when the ISAF confirmed the kiteboarding (sport of the future) would replace windsurfing (sport of the past) at the Rio Olympics.  However, apparently as a result of intense lobbying, yesterday the governing body reversed its decision and went back to the status quo...

Frankensturm, Sandy... whatever you call it it was a hammer!

November 4, 2012 by Ron Andruff   Comments (3)

Sitting in the comfort of my mom's living room in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, far from the flooded, dark streets of New York, I watch the devastation on television like any other viewer from any other part of the world.  It is hard to believe that just 48 hours ago Ombretta and I were hurricane refugees living in our darkened, communications-less apartment with candles, flashlights and our fireplace to keep us in light and warmth.  Our cell phone batteries, along with those of our... Book recommendations about running, triathlons, etc.

October 25, 2012 by Tom Barrett   Comments (0)

, ,

I am looking for some recomendations on inspirational books about running and extreme sports in general.
I've enjoyed some great books on running:  especially "Confessions of an All-Night Runner" and "Born to Run"
Reading "Once a Runner" now.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for me?
Here is a top-5 list from someone on Amazon:

Has anyone read any of these?

Bitez/Bodrum (Turkey) - 12-19 Oct 2012 - a long needed vacation, getting away from the Danish and UK rain and drizzle

October 19, 2012 by Lars Nordhild Rønning   Comments (2)

With very short notice, only 4 days in fact, Helene, Magnus and I jumped on a last minute holiday to Bitez (Bodrum) in Turkey. Unfortunately Emil couldn't make it since he was on a "Diamond Extreme" survival trip with the scouts.
With only very little time to research the destination we did not know what to expect - other than sun and warmth, and getting away, which is what we needed as a family.
We had a fantastic time, as I think the photos show! Great scenery, great weather, wonderful... Read full post

Push Up Challenge Update: 250 push ups done!

October 14, 2012 by Daniel Montenegro   Comments (0)

I finished my 250 push ups last night right before midnight.  It was tough as we did 41 in class earlier. I did them in sets of 50! By the end my knuckles were beaten up from the last week of the challenge, which started with 225 last Monday.
For the past few days I used my Gi pants folded in half placed on the wood floor as padding. It helped to slightly relieve the pressure on my knuckles, however it did not change the fact that after finished, it would take a few seconds for me... Read full post

250!!! Today is the final Push-up Challenge Day!

October 13, 2012 by Ron Andruff   Comments (2)

Well well... Here we are - finally - at 250 push ups!  It's been an amazing exercise in will power, but the physical effort and beneficial results - including the severely calloused knuckles - are something I can take pride in...  With this final 250 push ups today, we completed 1,580 for this week and an astounding 6,400 push ups in total, if my count is right, over the last 7 weeks!  August 25th was our start date and October 13th our finish.
I send my heartfelt... Read full post

At 235, the Push Up Challenge feels like the long hard shlog that it is...

October 10, 2012 by Ron Andruff   Comments (2)

The Challenge seems like the Italian words "sensa fine" - without end!  Today is 235, which means that Saturday, October 13th is the day we hit our target!!  That day can't come soon enough for me...  The issue is not so much the push ups themselves, it is more keeping track of how many I have done as the day progresses.  When you are doing so many reps to make the count in one day your mind starts to play tricks on you... As in: Did I just do that rep or did I just think... Read full post
