A historic match-up between world champion surfers Kelly Slater (USA) and Joel Parkinson (AUS) took place during the Final of the 2013 Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast. The first ASP World Tour event of the year, the Quik Pro packed thousands of fans on the sand of Kirra Beach in Queensland, Australia to watch what was promised to be a classic heat in 3-5 ft barreling rights. Parko almost scores a perfect ten, but is cut off by Slater who had priority and is the master of competitive strategy, resulting in a middle finger from Parko. In the end, it was Slater that scored the highest heat total of 18.56 over Parkinson's 17.47, to claim his 52nd World Tour win.
