'Promotion Class is every day' is a phrase often noted in the dojo, which of course means that you need to 'bring it' to every class so that your Sensei can see your progress...  unfortunately, we were not promoted.

That notwithstanding, the Promotion Class was held in a very special place.  In the words of our Sempai Montenegro: "...the history of Nisei Dojo in NYC goes back to the late 60's and great martial artists trained there.  Some of them were feature on the 'Warrior Within' documentary.  It was also the place where kumite [fighing competitions] between dojos took place.  This is a historic and very important promotion, so despite who is getting promoted and who is not,  think of all the people who step into that dojo before you and gave there best effort to represent their dojo.   Be proud of your knowledge, your technique and the patch on your gi."

On this Promotion Day, 6 senseis from 6 different dojos - all decendents of one master - were in attendance.
