Had plans to put our kiting gear in the back of our new (used) Golf GTI this weekend and head across the state to the Gulf Coast and up to Sarasota to visit our good friend, Max... Kiting, Max, (missing Jillian) and their dogs was what we had in mind. But that was not in the cards when the car blew a fan belt on Friday late afternoon of Memorial Day weekend!
As good fortune would have it the very next day we motorcycled across town and jumped on board the 45-foot Aquadisiac, our friends' (Canadian from Vancouver) Mark and his Argentine fiance, Maria, and took a 4.5 hour ride up the intercoastal to Boca Raton, where Mark had reserved Slip 7 at the Boca Raton Resort and Club.
After two days of funning and sunning with M&M, their friend Alba (who was also on board when we dropped our lines in Miami Beach), as well as new friends Doug, Lee and Bradley who were local, we caught a ride back down to the beach with Michael. But that was not before we caught some great waves body surfing.
Michael is a cool guy from Cleveland by way of Chicago who lives on Hibiscus Island (which lays between South Beach and Miami). I mention Hibiscus Island because Mike and Ombra swam the circumfrance of it on Memorial Day itself - a swim of 2.5 miles - while I did it in the sea kayak...
Lots of exercise and lots of laughs this Memorial Day weekend... As my friend Wayner says, it was "a good recovery!" Indeed, it was excellent!
Finished it off by harvesting a dozen cocunuts from the tree across the street and enjoying big glasses of fresh coconut water... All that potassium is just what our bodies needed.
