Mega endurance weekend done! 34K/21.1 mile run Sat & 178.8K/111.1 mile bike Sun (23-24 Mar 2013)

Given I have done very limited training this year, I decided to do some mega LSD & HITS endurance testing this weekend, in preparation for a season of Ironman's and ultra runs. And it went surprisingly well!

A long run yesterday afternoon/evening along the canals (Langley to Rickmansworth, and back), 34K/21.1 miles. I was running in trail shoes on a fairly hard surface so it was kinda tough on the feet but otherwise no problems - other than it did test the patience at times, since running out and back following a canal can get a bit boring (!).

Today the choice was between staying indoors and watching the winds and light snowfall through the windows - or don all the winter gear (including Therm-IC heated insoles) and my heavy winter bike and give it a go. So that's what I did. Slow going due to the winds, cold and a pretty heavy bike - but loved it! I ended up doing "Spring Onion" plus biking out and back, total of 178.8K/111.1 miles and almost 1,600 meters/5,250 meters of climbing. The time was less than impressive but that was less important.

Lotsa energy throughout - thanks to 2 bottles of High5 Xtreme, 2 bottles of Coke, 3 Clif Bar and 2 Hammer Gel.

Now off to Gatwick to pick up the family which is flying over from Denmark to celebrate Easter in the UK!
