Now that the money Blatter received has been quietly moved to his Swiss bank (pardon my cynicism) here is today's sport headline: Blatter labels 2022 World Cup award a ‘mistake’
"Fifa president Sepp Blatter has admitted the decision of world football’s governing body to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar was “a mistake”, adding it was now “probable” that the tournament would be played in the winter months."
Like he didn't know that that was his plan all along, replete with the walk back on the number of wonderfully air conditioned stadia that he so loudly touted, Blatter flaunts his arrogance with this lame mea culpa! Every fan, every city that has a team, every football organization will suffer at this man's temerity to move the World Cup to winter months... And the fact that he is getting away with it is all the more galling...
HERE IS WHAT I WROTE IN THIS POST BACK IN AUGUST 2013:
Back when the votes for future World Cups were taken, Sepp Blatter - the teflon head of FIFA - was adamant that the reason Qatar would be able to play the World Cup 2022 in summer was because of the extraordinary air conditioned stadia that the Qataris would build! He went on to say that there would be no moving the WC to winter months, as that would be heresy... The fix was in for Qatar and Russia getting their World Cups because Blatter single-handedly determined - in an unprecedented move - that the votes should be taken for both 2018 and 2022 simultaneously, if you recall. Voting blocks were traded between them and Blatter came out all the more personally financially well-off (according to all reports) for having orchestrated placing a World Cup in a country that has no football history whatsoever... Today, as the sports press reports the following, I ask the question, how does this guy get away with all the shit he pulls??? Incomprehensible to me...
FIFA president Sepp Blatter expects its executive committee of football’s global governing body to approve shifting the 2022 World Cup from its traditional summer slot.
Speculation has mounted in recent months that the 2022 tournament in Qatar will be moved to the winter months, in order to avoid its stifling summer temperatures. Blatter told the Associated Press on Sunday that such a move is likely to be endorsed at an executive committee (ExCo) meeting on October 3-4 in Zurich.
Blatter said: “I would be very much surprised, more than surprised, if the ExCo will not accept the principle you cannot play in summer in Qatar. Those that have taken the [2022 host city] decision at the time, they knew there is problems with the heat. They knew it, because it was in the [technical] report. It was wrong to say, ‘Now we have to play in summer,’ because in summer you cannot play there.
“Therefore the ExCo now shall take the decision — and they will take it — that in summer you can’t play in Qatar. What will be the ongoing situation with such a decision, we have to look on the international calendar. We have to look if and how it is possible, when we don’t play in summer, when is the best time to play in winter?”
After one year since an independent review was established, FIFA president Sepp Blatter has determined that ethics prosecutor Michael Garcia’s report into alleged corruption in the bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups will stay secret! The full story is reported here:http:/
Why am I not surprised that the biggest mafia boss in the world, Sepp Blatter - after all of his blather about openness and independent reviews on this matter when it first arupted - would quash the public's right to know the truth?!
That notwithstanding, I don't think that even Blatter can keep this extraordinary corruption and vote rigging below the surface very much longer... With the independent examiner's report out now, someone of authority has to rise to the occassion to expose it. The question is: Who has the courage or moral depth to do so?
