Loosing a job. How bad can it be?

It was a week ago that I was unexpectedly laid off from my job, after 7 and half years. It was truly shocking to hear from my I was no longer needed as a full time Designer, because the company was heading in a different direction. I remember feeling confused and taking by surprise, not know how to deal with it, what to do next, where to go to clear my mind.
I cleared my desk and as I was packing my bag, I saw in it my swim trunks, googles and cap. I left the office extremely upset at the situation after saying goodbye to my co-workers, I headed to the Gym for a 30 minute swim.
There is a calming effect water has on me. It is hard for me to think about anything else but swim. Water is also my favorite element, it takes the shape of any container without loosing its essence. It felt great!
My wife founded me at the pool (called her before I left the office). I was calm and ready for the challenge ahead. Seeing her in the middle the day and spending the rest of the day together was extraordinary!
Stay active my friends, sports activity is good for the mind, soul and body.

Losing a job is never pleasant, Daniel.  As you noted it is shocking and disorienting, but as you also note, "How bad can it be?"  You didn't lose the use of a part of your body from a stroke, or worse find yourself paralyzed from a car accident and unable to move - let alone not be able to enjoy sport... You have a good life and woderful wife and a new future... All of which I am sure that you came to understand as you swam laps in the pool.  Indeed, sport has that ability to allow us to work out our tensions and frustrations and leave us with some clarity of mind so I am glad that you followed your instincts to the pool.  I am sure that it will not be long until you find yourself in a new and more fulfilling position, however, in the meantime why don't you and Coco look for a cheap ticket and come down to South Beach so that you can get in some serious swimming and tennis...  Our door is open and our guest room awaits!  We hope to hear confirmation that you are coming soon...
