This afternoon as I was entering some data into my lifedotsport page, I got a call from Jim Wilkinson, someone that I had played hockey against when we were 16 years old! He told me that he was recently asked if he knew anyone from the Montreal Canadiens and he immediately thought of me. A few clicks of the mouse and search on the Internet yielded him my office number and soon we were laughing about our hockey past - over 40 years ago! The Splatsin First Nations Tribe that he works with is looking to raffle off two tickets to the Canucks v Canadiens game in March to raise money to send some kids from the tribe to a Youth Conference. So, trying to do my part and hockey being the fraternity that it is, I did a quick search online to find out who I knew -- or better said, who might still know me -- within the Canadien's organization. I found out that Larry Carriere is the Assistant General Manager and sent him an email to reconnect. Larry had played with the Hershey Bears (AHL) and Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL) and we had crossed swords a few times. But that was a long time ago... To my surprise and great pleasure, Larry responded within the hour: "...good to hear from you. I will forward your request to our people and they will get back to you and the organization. Sure remember you and your good career. Good health and continued success!" What an amazing chain of events, all facilitated through the Internet in minutes... Whether the Canadiens will be able to fulfill the request or not, I don't know, but I do know how cool it was to be the connector between two other hockey players for a worthy cause.
