Done! Last long training weekend before Challenge Henley-on-Thames (full Ironman distance) in 2 weeks - 16 Sep 2012.Yesterday evening: 25.2K/15.7 miles run. Exactly 2 hours.Today: bike from Langley to Henley-on-Thames, then 1 loop of the bike course (which is 3 loops in total), and bike back home. 148K/92K. 875m/2,870 feet of climbing. On paper it looks like a fast course, but it's really not... Long gradual ascents, poor and slow road surface on many stretches. It will probably be windy too.... Read full post

Ironman training

August 26, 2012 by Lars Nordhild Rønning   Comments (0)

Was showing off my new Evolution Running & Triathlon tri gear today! 181.5K (113 miles) and 1,615 meters (5,300 feet) of climbing. "Spring Onion" sportive course + out and back. Quite windy. 6.16 hours; felt like headwind all day although that's probably not possible given it's a looped course... Guess I am still a bit tired after Norseman and Challenge Copenhagen. Very hungry now, and all I've got in the kitchen is porridge oats, 2 apples and High5 Protein Recovery! I sure am happy I don't... Read full post

Race report - Challenge Copenhagen 2012 - only 8 days after Norseman - 10.49 finish time!

August 13, 2012 by Lars Nordhild Rønning   Comments (2)

By luck (or accident?) I ended up with 2 Ironman distance races within only 8 days... I had signed up for Challenge Copenhagen 2012 last year, but was later also lucky to win in the ballot and got an entry to Norseman... I did Norseman last weekend and felt fine and had recovered only a couple of days afterwards so I decided to give Challenge Copenhagen a go yesterday. Loved the swim – took my time and really enjoyed it. Clear water and lots of space, the bike went really well until 140... Read full post

How do people feel about disqualifying olympic athletes for social behavior, such as Tweets?
Should "inappropriate" behavior (determined by an unspecified panel of officials be grounds for disqualification from the sporting events?

Norseman 4 August 2012 race report
Lars Nordhild Rønning
My fascination with Norseman began in 2005, back in the days when I was running Active Sports and was the distributor for Xterra Wetsuits in the UK and Scandinavia. I had just completed my first Ironman – Ironman Lanzarote – and saw the most amazing pictures from a crazy, cult-like race in Norway called Norseman.
After Lanzarote in May 2005 I decided to register for Half-Ironman UK and Norseman, both to take place in... Read full post

Race report: Ironman Frankfurt / Ironman European Championship 2012 - 8 July - 10.44 finish time

Ironman Frankfurt / Ironman European Championship 2012 - 8 July 2012
After a spell of hot days, the water temperature was getting very close to 24.5C (the upper limit allowed for wetsuit swims), and it looked like it might end up being a non-wetsuit swim. Luckily, it cooled down a little before the race, and it started raining, so the temperature stayed below the limit. Many of us could now relax, especially less talented swimmers such as myself. With almost 3,000 swimmers in a fairly small... Read full post

Renault Scenic & Avis experience in Frankfurt

July 4, 2012 by Lars Nordhild Rønning   Comments (1)

** 18:18 after having waited on Avis coming back with a solution for a couple of hours:OK I know this sounds crazy, but I managed to get myself and my colleague/fellow IM Frankfurt competitor locked out of our rental car in Germany (a French Renault Scenic), with the car key in the car, and absolutely all of our belongings in the car as well. Money, phones, bikes, luggage. One of those nice keyless entry systems which are great when they work, but getting back into the car is virtually... Read full post
